Caring for your beautiful tree

How to keep my cut tree fresh?
Remember, Christmas trees are (or were) a living thing, so we ask a great deal when we cut them down and bring them into the warm dry atmosphere of our 21st century houses. Also, depending on where you buy your tree from, some of them could have been cut since the beginning of November or even earlier in some cases, so it may be a month old before you even get it home.

If you are worried about missing out on the best trees you can reserve your tree at Cedar Croft and come back when you are ready.  Using a Christmas tree stand that will hold a good volume of water is very important.

The way to get the best out of your tree is to treat it like a cut flower, (no, don’t try and stuff it into a vase and stick them on the window sill!)….. Water them!  Water the new tree until water uptake stops.  Hot water every time you water

Hot water helps prevent the sap build up on the fresh cut Tree and also assists in dissolving sap.  The tree drinks for a longer period of time using hot water every time, thus your tree will stay fresher. When we say hot water – we mean the hottest water out of the tap you can get.  Never Never use any hotter

I know it sounds like a lot of work, but how long do you want your tree to last?
Well, the simple answer is …as long as possible of course!  Always keep the base of a tree in water.

Keep away from direct heat, radiators and fires.
The cooler you can keep it, the longer it will last. Merry Christmas!  For easier watering, buy a funnel and a 3 to 4 foot tube. Slip the tube over the funnel outlet, extend tubing down into the tree stand and water without bending over or disturbing the tree skirt. Hide this system in an out-of-the-way part of the tree.
